October 2026 in Carson City: Nevada Day, Halloween, BOOnanza & Fall Events

If there is one month when Carson City really shows off, it might be October.

The leaves are changing, the weather is usually gorgeous, Halloween events pop up all over town, and everything leads up to one of Carson City's biggest traditions of the year: Nevada Day.

And 2026 is a little different.

Nevada Day falls on Saturday, October 31 this year, which means Carson City will celebrate Halloween and traditional neighborhood trick-or-treating one day early on Friday, October 30.

So, if you're wondering what to do in Carson City this October, here are some of the events you'll want on your calendar.

When Is Trick-or-Treating in Carson City in 2026?

Friday, October 30, 2026

Yes, we're doing the Carson City Halloween switch again!

If you've lived here for a while, you probably remember years when Nevada Day and Halloween collided and local families moved trick-or-treating to October 30.

That's exactly what's happening in 2026.

Because the Nevada Day Parade and celebration will take over downtown Carson City on Saturday, October 31, the Carson City Board of Supervisors officially designated Friday, October 30 for Halloween activities.

Kids can trick-or-treat throughout Carson City neighborhoods Friday evening, and downtown Carson City will also host a Downtown Candy Crawl from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

So parents, don't wait until Saturday night to break out the costumes!

Before neighborhood trick-or-treating even begins, Carson City families can kick off Halloween weekend at BOOnanza.

BOOnanza will be held at Mills Park on Thursday, October 29 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

This free community Halloween celebration has become HUGE.

Approximately 100 local businesses and organizations typically set up decorated booths throughout the park, handing out candy and treats to thousands of kids.

Expect costumes, candy, food trucks, activities and plenty of Halloween fun.

Nevada Day 2026 in Carson City | October 31

This is the big one.

Nevada became the 36th state on October 31, 1864, and there is nowhere quite like Carson City on Nevada Day.

Even better, in 2026 the Nevada Day Parade actually falls on Nevada's birthday: Saturday, October 31.

The theme for the 2026 Nevada Day Parade is:

“Pumpkins, Pioneers and Tall Tales”

Festivities begin early Saturday morning, with hot-air balloons scheduled to begin around 6:00 a.m. and the balloon launch planned for approximately 8:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The Nevada Day Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. and travels through downtown Carson City.

But the parade is only part of the fun.

Throughout Nevada Day weekend you'll find food, vendors, live music, children's activities and some wonderfully Nevada traditions.

Things to Do on Nevada Day

Some of the events and traditions to look for include the Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk, World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest, Beard Contest at McFadden Plaza, Nevada Day Chili Feed, Governor's Mansion Open House, Nevada State Museum activities and historic train rides at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

The Nevada State Museum is also expected to operate historic Coin Press No. 1, while the Nevada State Railroad Museum offers special Nevada Day train rides.

Nevada Day is part parade, part history lesson and part enormous hometown reunion.

If you're new to Carson City, it's one of those days you really need to experience at least once.

Visit NevadaDay.com for the official schedule and Visit Carson City for additional Nevada Day information.

Nevada Day Powwow | October 30–November 1

The Nevada Day Powwow is another special part of Nevada Day weekend.

The event celebrates Indigenous culture with Native American and First Nations dancers, singers, competitions, arts and crafts, and food vendors.

Events are scheduled throughout the weekend from October 30 through November 1, with multiple Grand Entry ceremonies.

The Powwow is free and family-friendly.

Check the Nevada Day schedule for current times and event information.

October in Carson City Is Pretty Hard to Beat

One of the things I love about living and working in Carson City is that it still knows how to feel like a community.

October is a perfect example.

Within a few weeks, you can take the kids trick-or-treating at Mills Park, tour historic homes, ride a historic train, wander downtown in costume and then stand along Carson Street with thousands of your neighbors celebrating Nevada's birthday.

And remember the most important calendar note for 2026:

Trick-or-treat Friday, October 30. Nevada Day Saturday, October 31.
